Research Interests: Ultimate strength of slab/column structures and bridge decks;  In-situ testing of concrete;  Concrete durability;  Fibre optic sensors; Pre-cast concrete arches.

Other Interests: Developing international links with universities, eg. Politecnico di Milano, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore;  Ecole Central, Paris;  sport;  walking;  travel.
